Memorial Presbyterian Church
has a strong commitment to local and world missions. Close
to home we have provided support to the Community Food Pantry; to
Care & Share Meals; to Kemmerer Village, a Presbyterian home for
children located south of Assumption; to Dove, a shelter for battered women; to the
Good Samaritan Inn, a soup kitchen; to Shadow House, a
shelter for homeless women and children; and the Marion Medical
Mission headed by Dr. Tom Logan.
Members of our church have worked closely with the John
Morrison Appalachia mission gathering
clothing, blankets, books, and Sunday School supplies that
are taken to the Appalachia region each fall. Our
church has opened our doors to this group to provide a
meeting place for them.
Reaching out further, we
have donated money, building supplies, and vitamins, to
Intercambio Cultural de Maya. Six members of our church
have given up their Christmas vacations to participate in
construction projects or give medical assistance in the
Mexican villages. Our Mexican missions is a strong focus.
Besides Intercambio, we have provided monetary assistance
to the Yucatan Presbyterian Ministries headed by Ramon
Celis. Even our Sunday School children have sponsored a
child who attends the Downs Syndrome Institute in Merida.
Through our contact with Dr. Tom Logan, we have become
dedicated to the Malawi wells mission project. Our Bible
School children raised money to buy tools needed to
construct the wells. Through fund raising projects and
memorials the congregation raised money to fund four wells
in Malawi.
In addition we have helped with
Tsunami and Hurricane Relief, Peacemaking Offerings,
prepared 22 shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child,
contributed to Joy Offering at Christmas, and with help from
the local DCFS sponsored a local family in need at
Christmas. |
